Black Oxide Coating

Black Oxide, Blackening, Oxidizing, Oxiding, Gun Bluing...All of these terms refer to black oxide coating, a service that Ampere Metal proudly specializes in.

Over the years, we have developed a unique method that results in a high quality black oxide coating that complies with automotive, aerospace, and military specifications across North America. We use this hot alkaline aqueous black oxide process to ensure the highest quality black oxide coating for Toronto and North American clients.

Ampere specializes in black oxide coating on steel, iron, and stainless steel alloys and efficiently manages both large and small production runs. Our bulk processing capabilities allow us to provide quality workmanship and fast delivery times for customers who require black oxide coating in Toronto as well as anywhere in Canada and the United States.

How does Black Oxide Coating Work?

The black oxide process is a chemical conversion coating. This means that black oxide is not deposited on the surface of the substrate like nickel or zinc electroplating. Instead, black oxide coating is produced by a chemical reaction between the iron on the surface of the ferrous metal and the oxidizing salts present in the black oxide solution. These oxidizing salts include penetrates, catalysts, activators and proprietary additives which all take part in the chemical reaction. The result of this chemical reaction is the formation of black iron oxide on the surface of the metal being coated.
Black oxide has a range of unique properties and benefits that can be applied to a variety of industries.
Ampere is proud to provide black oxide coating for Toronto local productions as well as for projects anywhere in North America. For more information on how we can enhance your project with our coating solutions, please give us a call.
